Municipal Regional Stormwater Improvements

Kalispell, Montana

About the Project

The City of Kalispell is a fast-growing community and needed to plan regional stormwater improvements to facilitate new development.  The West Growth Area, however, had a significant challenge – influential downstream landowners were very concerned about both perceived or real changes to flows through their neighborhood if the West Growth Area developed.  AE2S developed a creative approach to routing flows around this development that involved constructing a new storm sewer through over 25 feet of cut.  Included in the project was designing three regional detention facilities with one of those facilities integrated into a city park and open space area.
