Project Details
Date: 2019 – 2020
Client: City of Burnsville
Key Project Elements
- StoryMap
- Web Maps
- Operations Dashboard
- Public Education and Engagement
Over 1,400 people were engaged in the discovery process through a digital community survey, group interviews and listening sessions, personal interviews, and community events. Throughout the project, AE2S continuously met with the project team, partner groups, and City Council to present project updates. The new brand, “You Belong Here,” can be seen throughout the community and region on a variety of mediums.
For this project, purpose-driven GIS applications were used to support outreach efforts. AE2S developed a StoryMap to make it easier to interpret the food truck ordinances. The StoryMap referenced existing Burnsville web GIS layers, numerous openly available multi-media sources (Street-view, pictures, ordinance documents, etc.), custom graphics from our marketing team, Feature Layers, Web Maps, and Operations Dashboard.
The StoryMap is now hosted on the City of Burnsville website and helps make clarifying new city ordinances for food trucks easy to consume. Our AE2S GIS and Communication teams also tapped into some cool data and analytics GIS can provide through tapestry with ESRI to get insight into the City of Burnsville’s demographics, such as percent of young professionals in Burnsville. This information is critical to knowing the audience when developing target marketing materials.
