A project to make the water distribution system in the City of Great Falls, Montana more reliable won a 2019 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Water Resources Honor Award. AE2S worked on the $5.5 million project with TD&H Engineering and Brierley Associates.
The project involves the installation of two additional water transmission pipelines under the Missouri River and Sun River using horizontal directional drilling. The new water transmission pipelines provide redundancy and the improvements will ensure water pressure and delivery during periods of increased demand.
About 3,600 lineal feet of 24-inch diameter fusible PVC pipe was installed underneath the Missouri River, while roughly 1,500 feet of 20-inch diameter fusible PVC pipe was routed underneath the Sun River.
AE2S provided technical design and construction support for the directional boring of large diameter PVC pipelines of significant length, including the preparation of the specifications, contractor qualification criteria, QA/QC, shop drawing review, etc.
The project kicked off in April 2018 and is scheduled to be completed in December 2019.
