Residents and businesses in New Town, North Dakota noticed a welcome change at their taps in August as a major water project began to wrap up.
The new 250,000-gallon water tower is now serving the northern side of the City, while the reservoir continues to serve folks on the southern side of town which means improved water pressure as well as better fire protection in emergency situations.“In the future, New Town residents and businesses may see their property insurance premiums decrease due to the improved access to water for fire protection purposes,” says Deon Stockert, AE2S Client Program Leader and New Town City Engineer.
The North Dakota State Water Commission provided $1.94 million in funding for the New Town drinking water project. The project includes a new water fill depot, pressure reducing valves, pipelines, SCADA and telemetry, and electrical work, as well as a new elevated tank that residents and visitors see on the New Town horizon. The new water tower is located northwest of town and is decorated with “City of New Town, Heart of Lake Sakakawea” and adorned with a crisp logo of a heart marking the City’s location along the shore of North Dakota’s most famous lake.
