AE2S staff have been pretty excited about concrete lately. Three projects – one in Montana and two in North Dakota – received awards for the way concrete was utilized in their designs.
Montana Contractors Association Excellence in Construction Award

Montana Contractors Association Excellence in Construction Award, 1st Place in Concrete Excellence – Best Industrial Commercial
The Rocky Boy’s / North Central Montana Regional Water System received an Excellence in Construction Award from the Montana Contractors Association! The Rocky Boy’s Water Treatment Plant Phase 1 was named First Place in Concrete Excellence – Best Industrial Commercial at an awards ceremony in Helena.
The project involved the construction of a 74,000-sf structure to house an 11 million gallon per day water treatment facility. The treatment process includes flocculation, plate settling, and filtration systems, along with chemical feed systems and pumping equipment. The project utilized more than 7,200 cubic yards of cast-in-place concrete, precast tilt-up exterior panels, and structural steel framing. When the regional water system is constructed, it will serve seven counties in north-central Montana!
Congratulations to the project’s owner, Chippewa Cree Construction Corporation, as well as the design team of AE2S, Black & Veatch, and KLJ; the contractor, Sletten Construction; and Ahsiniy Concrete, the concrete supplier.
Two North Dakota Gold Star Awards for Excellence in Concrete

Parshall, ND 7th Avenue NW
The City of Parshall’s street improvements project received a Gold Star Award for Excellence in Concrete in the Innovation category. The 7th Avenue NW project utilized 7-inch concrete containing macro-fibers for longevity, durability, and value. This is the first practical application of macro-fibers in a low slump, machine slip-form paving project in North Dakota.
The ND Ready Mix & Concrete Products Association and the ND Chapter of the American Concrete Pavement Association recognized the project at a recent awards ceremony. AE2S was the design firm, Strata Corporation Construction was the contractor, and Strata Corporation was the concrete supplier for the Gold Star Award-winning project.
Spectra Health’s parking lot project received a Gold Star Award for Excellence in the Parking Lot category. The project redeveloped an old hospital site in downtown Grand Forks, converting it into a fully accessible and sustainable parking lot. It also enhanced accessibility for Spectra Health’s clientele, providing ADA-compliant access. Plus, it solved the challenge of building on top of construction debris from the original 1880’s townsite development.
The ND Ready Mix & Concrete Products Association and the ND Chapter of the American Concrete Pavement Association recognized the project at a recent awards ceremony. AE2S designed the project and Opp Construction, ICS, Inc., Gowan Construction, and Molstad Construction were the contractors. Holcim and Strata Corporation supplied the concrete.
Congratulations to the Chippewa Cree Construction Corporation, City of Parshall, and Spectra Health on the awards!
