There are just a few weeks until the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) October 16, 2024, deadline. Water systems must submit their initial service line inventories by that date or as required by individual States. Starting on October 16, water systems have 30 days to notify customers with unknown service line materials and service lines containing lead or galvanized steel requiring replacement. LCRR compliance also requires Tier 1 Public Notification in the event of a lead action level exceedance.
To assist with notifications, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) recently published service line public notification templates and a Tier 1 notification template, along with a fact sheet. The templates include required wording as well as recommended phrasing. Please note that States may require water systems to use State-specific templates that include USEPA’s required wording. AE2S recommends checking with the primacy agency for proper guidance documentation.
The USEPA’s final Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) rulemaking is expected to be released before the end of 2024. If you have questions about the LCRR or LCRI, contact Nate Weisenburger, AE2S Drinking Water Practice Leader.
